Program description: Students train in Dance, Vocal, Instrumental Music, Visual Art, CTE Drama and the only school in the Bronx offering a CTE program in Technical Theater, to gain pre-professional and hands-on experience in a 4-year sequence leading students to earn a Chancellor's Arts Endorsed Diploma. Multiple performance and exhibition opportunities provide a platform for our scholars to introduce themselves to the professional arts world. All arts studios are equipped with modern-day technology and resources.

Audition information: Students are required to audition in their interest area of study which includes a writing prompt. Please see school website for department specific audition requirements. Dance: Participate in either a ballet class or a modern dance class. Applicants must wear ballet shoes and fitted black dance attire. Refer to school's directory page or website to see if a prepared solo is necessary. Drama: Perform two contrasting monologues (one minute each). Perform an on-demand dramatic or movement activity (e.g. impromptu reading from provided script or improvisation). Wear attire that allows free movement. Music Production/Instrumental: Students are encouraged to bring any of the following that apply. These components are not necessary but will provide a great benefit to the audition. 1. Music made using computer software on a computer or a flash drive. 2. 1 piece of music to be performed on an instrument of student choice. Modern Band Instruments such as guitar, bass, drums, and keyboards are encouraged. Song can be performed solo or over an existing piece of music brought on a flash drive. Students must be prepared to: 1. Listen to and clap back 5 rhythms molded by teacher, and 2. Listen to and identify major and minor chords. Vocal Music: Perform a song in a medium key that you have prepared and bring the sheet music. Song recommendations may also be listed on schools' websites. Vocal singers will also be asked to repeat vocal phrases to test rhythm, tonal memory, and basic vocal technique. Ability to incorporate directions from teacher will be considered. Visual Art: Prepare and present a portfolio with 8-15 pieces of original artwork with a diversity of subject matter and use of media. Three dimensional pieces may be photographed and included in the portfolio. Complete up to three drawing assignments at the audition. Drawing assignments may include: the human figure and drawing from observation or imagination. Check school's website for examples. Sketchbooks are welcomed as extra drawings. Technical Theater Applicants are expected to bring a prepared 3D design model/diorama for presentation, based on the reading of any fairy tale. Applicant should be prepared to discuss their fairy tale, justify design choices and speak to the process of making their model. Applicants will be asked to participate in a hands-on practical in one or more aspects of technical theater.
